Kia now lists the Sorento in its Indian range and has opened its online booking and interest channels. That matters because this is not another compact crossover: the Sorento is a 4,815mm-long, three-row SUV with a 2,820mm wheelbase and the job of extending Kia’s presence into a more premium part of the market.
Indian buyers are being offered two distinct powertrain routes. Kia lists a Smartstream 2.2-litre diesel with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a Smartstream 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid with a six-speed automatic. Six- and seven-seat layouts are listed across the range, while higher versions add all-wheel drive and Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes.
The equipment strategy is broad rather than subtle. Depending on the trim, the official specification includes twin 12.3-inch displays, a 12-speaker Bose system, Kia Connect with over-the-air updates, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and a head-up display.
Safety also moves with the trim ladder. Kia lists seven airbags and a 26-feature standard safety package lower in the range, while higher variants bring 10 airbags and Level 2 ADAS with as many as 30 assistance functions. Buyers should still compare the exact variant sheet rather than treating every headline feature as standard equipment.
The Sorento’s strongest argument may be the space it occupies between ordinary family SUVs and much larger luxury-badged alternatives. The diesel keeps a familiar long-distance option alive, while the hybrid gives buyers a second route without turning the Sorento into an EV-only proposition. Final value will depend on variant pricing, but the product itself gives Kia India a credible new flagship-sized choice.
